July 10, 2006:

Back in March 2005, my  quest for the Utopia Clone came to an abrupt end. My drivers got STOLEN! If anyone sees a pair of 33WXs (auto) with no logo on the dust cap for sale or someone bragging they got it for cheap, it could very well be mine. Literally, ALL auto Utopia woofers have logos, only a select few does not. BTW, do not mistaken the 13WX for home. They DO NOT have a logo on the dust cap.

No updates on my site for over a year now. However, thanks to my forums, other cloners can now share their projects and ideas immediately.  I'm glad my work inspired others to build their own versions!  Some information, especially the x-over department are lacking for most projects but pdf files for the outside dimensions for all Utopia series can be found in my forums.  Don't forget to see the Wilson Maxx clone (files to start this beast are also available in the forums too).  Build the big clones if you dare. Others have already and I am very impressed!

New Mezzo Utopia Clone (2nd one reported here) posted in the forums.

Welcome Frank - Grande Utopia clone in progress. The only one that I know of  in the www and he's building 2 pairs at the same time! See message forums: Cloning JM Lab Utopia line speakers >
JM Lab Grand Utopia Clone.

Mini Utopia and Utopia/Grande Hybrid clone.

FORUMS are back up but all my content was lost since the backup files were corrupted. For general questions, please post in the forums first before emailing me. Share your DIY projects (it doesn't have to be cloned).  I'll try to visit the forums every other day. See Forums to obtain the Utopia clone drawings.

My first ever completed speaker project - sorry, not the Utopia Clone. Arrgh!

Home page loads much faster now due to 60% reduction in image sizes.

Photo on the upper right is my home brew 300B amp coined, the EAM-300B, based on a modified version of the JEL300B schematics.  Built back in fall of 2000, the amp is still running flawlessly. :-)

July 10, 2006 update:  I built a pair of these amps back in January 2001.  I used them a lot in the first few years and rarely after that.  Total hours of use is unknown but I'll take a guess that it's over 1500 hours by now. Many years ago, I think I replaced the input tubes. The 300Bs are still running strong! Overall, the amps are running flawlessly since day 1. I am truly impressed and you may understand why after checking out my building diary. :-)

See DIY Speakers menu for Wilson Maxx Clone construction and completed pics.  This is the most comprehensive clone construction diary I have to date. Build one if you dare. :-)

It was back in 2000 when I had the crazy idea to clone the JM Lab Utopia.  The quest for completing my JM Lab Utopia Clone continues but others have joined my quest.  The good news is, I know of 3 completed Utopia Clones.  See Speakers page for more information including completed pics!  My Utopia clone is still under construction and because of constant delays, I have no idea when it will be completed.

As a guide, visit Forums for cloned plans and original Utopia x-over diagram that was copied from a magazine by a fellow DIY'fer . If you think you have the right stuff and always wanted an Utopia series (Micro, Mini, Mezzo, Utopia and Grande) clone of your own, d/l the plans (outside dimensions only) and you may end up with something below.  Wow!

Wow! Best looking Utopia clone to date.
See a few select clone pics by Bjorn.  That's 3 completed ones that I know of and mine is still not close to completion yet!

BTW, using Frontpage, have you ever experienced ridiculously hard or next to impossible to single space lines after exclusively hitting enter? I have and I don't even want to know why MSFT did that in the first place. Press shift and enter.
